Power Engineering

Laboratory Details

A Power Engineering Laboratory is an important facility in mechanical engineering that provides practical knowledge related to the generation, transmission, and utilization of power. The laboratory helps students understand the working principles and performance characteristics of various thermal and mechanical power systems used in industries and power plants. It bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and real engineering applications through hands-on experiments and demonstrations.

The laboratory is generally equipped with equipment such as boilers, steam turbines, internal combustion engines, air compressors, refrigeration and air-conditioning test rigs, heat exchangers, cooling towers, and performance testing setups. Students perform experiments to study boiler efficiency, engine performance, fuel consumption, refrigeration cycles, compressor characteristics, and heat transfer processes. These experiments help in understanding energy conversion, thermodynamic cycles, and efficiency improvement techniques.

Power Engineering Lab develops technical, analytical, and troubleshooting skills among students. It also creates awareness about energy conservation, environmental impact, and safe operation of power systems. The laboratory plays a significant role in preparing students for careers in thermal power plants, automobile industries, HVAC systems, manufacturing industries, and energy management sectors. Overall, it is an essential part of mechanical engineering education that supports both academic learning and industrial training
